In a lot of Latin households, therapy just isn’t something we grew up with. We’re taught to be strong, keep going, not complain, and handle things inside the house. It’s always “you’re fine,” “just pray about it,” or “stop overthinking.”

And while that mindset comes from love, survival, and resilience, sometimes it also teaches us to stay quiet when we’re really struggling.

Mental health is still a sensitive topic in our culture. A lot of people still think therapy means something is “wrong” with you, or that you’re crazy for needing help. So instead of talking about stress, anxiety, or depression, people push through it and act like it’s normal.

But the truth is, needing help isn’t weakness. If anything, it takes more strength to sit down and face what you’re feeling than to keep pretending everything is okay.

And little by little, especially with our generation, things are changing. We’re talking more, healing more, and realizing that what we experienced growing up doesn’t have to be what we pass down.

Therapy isn’t about being broken. It’s about understanding yourself, healing your mind, and breaking patterns that were never meant to stay in your family line.

And honestly, that’s powerful.
